Press Release Body: Carolina Beach, NC, October 08, 2008 -- Carolina Beach, NC – The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce will once again hold the world famous, 15th Annual Seafood, Blues and Jazz Festival on Saturday and Sunday, October 11th and 12th at the Fort Fisher Military Recreation Area in Kure Beach, NC. This world famous two-day Festival features two sound stages where over 18 National and International Musicians will play the best in American Blues, Jazz and World music. Headlining the Festival this year are the incomparable and award-winning Blues and Rock Guitarists, Johnny and Edgar Winter, playing together for the first time in over 30 years. For over 30 years, Johnny Winter has been a guitar legend and hero without equal. Signing with Columbia records in 1969, Johnny immediately laid out the blueprint for his fresh take on traditional Blues – a prime combination for the legions of fans just discovering the Blues via the likes of John Baldry, Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. Constantly shifting between simple country Blues to all-out electric slide guitar Blues-Rock, Johnny is one of the most respected singer-songwriters and guitar players in Rock history and the clear link between British Blues-Rock and American Southern Rock of the Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s, Johnny was the unofficial torch-bearer for the Blues, championing the careers of his idols including, Muddy Waters, BB King and John Lee Hooker. In fact, Waters refers to Johnny as his “adopted son”. In 2008, Johnny was nominated for a Grammy Award for his archetype disc “I’m a Bluesman.”
Edgar Winter, Johnny’s younger brother, is a child prodigy who achieved international success early on. Edgar found an audience in every major entertainment medium – music, film and television. A prolific writer, Edgar’s music encompasses many different genres, including Rock, Jazz, Blues and Pop. From his debut album release in 1970, he has demonstrated his unique style and ability to cross all genre and do the unexpected. Edgar’s music can be heard in films as My Cousin Vinny, What’s Love Got to do With It, Wayne’s World2, Wag the Dog, The Simpsons, Tupac Resurrection, and many more. Edgar’s live shows consistently receive rave reviews. His music is always evolving and he is a master at stretching his skill and imagination to produce amazing musical results.
This year’s festival will also feature other award winning acts including but not limited to: Blues World Order, Sean Carney Band, Robin Rogers, Harper, Delta Moon, Lightnin’ Wells, 10 Dollar Thrill, Medusa Does the Blues and Sammy O’Banion and Mardi Gras.
